"STORIES, LIKE MAPS, ARE A METHOD FOR DOCUMENTING AND EXPLAINING, FOR MEANINGFULLY ABSTRACTING OUR EXPERIENCES, FOR COMMUNICATING AND SHARING, AND FOR ASSERTING A PARTICULAR WORLDVIEW."
- ROBERT ROTH
Maps tell stories - albeit in a visual manner. Through thorough organization of data, maps simplify multiple information to highlight a story. However, unlike texts, a map can share the narratives of the space it portrays without the barrier of language. These stories could be anything - statistics, culture, patterns, or even experiences. Through the creation and sharing of maps, map makers can share the perspective through which they see the world while expanding the horizons of those who can see their maps.
Spatial stories is a blog that puts together the artistic and the research-generated maps of cartography students of the Department of Geography in UP Diliman. Through this blog, the class hopes to inspire other cartography newbies to take part in creating the story by creating their own maps.
